About Us: Camp Holiday Trails began in 1973 when Dr. Peter Houck, Dr. Elsa Paulsen, and Dr. Robert Selden recognized a need within the community – a camp for children and teens with medical needs and their siblings. Since then, more than 10,000 Campers have experienced Camp Magic through overnight camp and year-round programming. Position Overview: As a Cabin Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating unforgettable experiences for our Campers. You’ll be responsible for leading and supervising Campers, facilitating activities including rock climbing, messy art, fishing, archery and more, fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, and ensuring safety and well-being throughout our Campers’ stay at Camp Holiday Trails.
Key Responsibilities:
- Camper Engagement: Create a warm and welcoming environment for Campers, encouraging them to participate in activities and form new friendships.
- Activity Leadership: Lead various camp activities, including arts and crafts, sports, outdoor adventures, and more, ensuring Campers have a blast while staying safe.
- Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to campers as they explore new challenges and opportunities.
- Safety and Well-being: Prioritize Campers safety by following Camp policies and procedures and responding to emergencies effectively.
- Inclusivity: Embrace diversity and create an inclusive atmosphere where all Campers, regardless of their abilities, feel valued and accepted.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow counselors, year-round staff, leadership, Med Team and volunteers to coordinate daily activities and ensure a seamless Camp experience.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with Camp leadership, parents/guardians, and fellow team members to address any Camper concerns or issues promptly.
- Documentation: Complete Camper reports, incident reports, and other necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Fun and Enthusiasm: Infuse each day with energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of adventure to make camp a truly magical experience for our Campers.
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with children and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree in education, psychology, or related field is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is preferred.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and demonstrate resilience.
- A love for the outdoors and a sense of adventure.
