Our teachers work in small, highly supportive classrooms alongside speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavior specialists, and teaching assistants to provide individualized, meaningful educational experiences for students with autism. About Center for Spectrum Services
Center for Spectrum Services is a nationally recognized New York State-approved special education school serving children ages 3–12 with autism throughout the Hudson Valley. For 50 years, we have provided high-quality, individualized educational and therapeutic services grounded in evidence-based practices, collaboration, and a commitment to helping every student maximize their potential.
Position Responsibilities
As a Special Education Teacher, you will:
- Lead and manage a classroom serving students with autism.
- Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with each student’s educational goals.
- Create a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment that promotes student growth and independence.
- Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with classroom teaching assistants.
- Partner with speech-language, occupational, physical, and behavioral professionals to support student success.
- Monitor student progress, maintain required documentation, and communicate regularly with families and interdisciplinary team members.
- Foster positive relationships while maintaining high expectations and a Neuro-affirming, trauma informed student-centered approach.
Qualifications
Required
- New York State Teacher Certification in one of the following:
- Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2), or
- Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred
- New York State Special Education Certification (Grades 1–6)
- Master’s degree
- One or more years of classroom teaching experience

Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- 10-month school year plus a 6-week summer program
