We are currently seeking a Railroad Geotechnical Engineer for our office located in Brentwood, TN to support a wide variety of railroad related engineering assignments. Position responsibilities include coordinating and executing field operations for site reconnaissance, drilling, test pit excavations, and various exploration methods. These field operations will support engineering work for roadbed instability, bridge foundations, new track beds, and tunnel rehabilitation or modifications. The successful candidate will also perform routine engineering computations, assign and review laboratory data, and prepare geotechnical engineering reports and proposals. Additional responsibilities include construction observation, drilling oversight, classification of soil and rock samples, and communication with subcontractors and external clients. Qualified candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work as a team player.
This position requires attention to details, strict conformance to project quality control and the ability to provide practical solutions to complex problems.
The Railroad Geotechnical Engineering position will require extensive travel across the United States with the possibilities of international travel.
Responsibilities:
- Perform field reconnaissance on roadbed instabilities, tunnels, new track structures, and foundation investigations.
- Assist in research, data collection, field observation, inspection, and field and laboratory testing. Prepare associated reports or sections of larger reports.
- Perform basic engineering analysis and calculations for roadbed instability, tunnel rehabilitation, retaining structures, and deep foundation systems.
- Perform construction phase engineering services including shop drawing reviews and responding to contractor requests for information.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training registration preferred, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- 0-3 years of professional experience.
- Basic business and strong technical writing skills.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and MicroStation, with the ability to learn commercial software applications.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
