JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our R&D department. This is a laboratory position focused on the development of new food product prototypes, including formulation, sensory and analytical testing, and small-scale production. The selected candidate may also work with the engineering team in scale-up, and the manufacturing team to assist with production operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop new product formulas and prototypes under the direction of the Product Development Manager.
- Analyze physical and chemical properties of products, including sensory/organoleptic, physical/chemical (viscosity, pH, moisture%, water activity, texture, and in-house characterization methods)
- Conduct formulation experiments to optimize properties of both food products and encapsulating membranes
- Assist with general laboratory duties including glassware and analytical equipment maintenance and standard R&D workflows
- Document experiments, present research results, propose new ideas for research and product development
- Contribute as needed to various functions within the company from Sales & Marketing to Manufacturing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Working towards BS in materials science, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field
- Demonstrated interest in food science or culinary arts
- Experience preferred with developing and testing materials
- Experience with some basic analytical chemistry equipment and methods
- Driven self-starter able to work on various projects and roles as needed in a fast-paced startup environment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an intimate team
