Inneract Project (IP) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2004, working to empower the next generation of Black, Latinx, and underrepresented designers of color. IP provides free design classes and initiatives that introduce students to the design field in hopes of channeling their creativity into exciting new career paths. Inneract Project is committed to reshaping the design and tech industries so that more Black, Latinx, and underrepresented folks of color are present, empowered, and supported.
Pre-Camp Facilitator
The Pre-Camp Facilitator role is designed to engage students more deeply in design concepts such as typography, color theory, and composition. This two-day session, led by a professional designer, will offer students hands-on learning experiences to help them better understand design’s foundational elements.
This role contributes to Inneract Project’s mission of reshaping the design and tech industries by empowering Black, Latinx, and underrepresented youth of color. Working closely with our Programs Team, you will facilitate Pre-Camp sessions, providing valuable feedback and instruction from a designer’s perspective.
General Responsibilities
- During pre-camp programs, lead sessions focused on design concepts with IP’s Community-Based Partners (CBOs).
- Review design prompts with students and guide typography, color theory, and composition.
- Adhere to Inneract Project’s code of conduct and honor system.
- Communicate any timing or deliverable challenges to the Program team.
- Be available for a minimum of 3 out of 6 Pre-Camp sessions, after school hours or on weekends
- Facilitate classroom size of 20 students
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or at least 2+ years of experience in similar or related roles is preferred.
- Strong passion for education, youth development, and social justice.
- Demonstrates expertise in graphic design, marketing, and digital communications.
- Proficiency in design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Ability to create well-crafted designs in static environments.
- A portfolio showcasing your creative proficiency and prior design experience.
- Willingness to travel within the Bay Area is expected.
COMMITMENT/TERM
This position requires a 10-month commitment for an average of 2-5 hours per week. Position commitment is subject to renewal and extension by agreement from both parties.
