- Production and Processing – Knowledge of raw material, production processes, and quality control for maximizing the effective manufacture of product.

Key Job Tasks:
- Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
- Inspect work pieces to verify conformance to specifications using rulers, templates, micrometers, gauges, calipers, or other measuring instruments to meet customer’s specifications.
- Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces.
- Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, material to be used, and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences.
- Position, adjust, and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, or arbors, or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms.
- Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
- Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
- Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation.
- Record operational data such as dimensional readings, lengths or frequency of strokes, feed rates, and speeds.
- Select, install, and adjust alignment of drills, cutters, dies, guides, and holding devices, using templates, measuring instruments, and hand tools.
- Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scales, rulers or templates.
- Position aligns and secure work pieces against fixtures or stop of machine beds or on dies.
- Monitor and adjust production processes or equipment for quality and productivity.
- Troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices, or products.
- Adjust equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, ring gauges, etc.
- Start up and shut down production equipment.
- Provide production, progress, or changeover reports to shift supervisors.
- Clean Maintain equipment and area around workspace.
- Enter, record store or maintain information in written or electronic form.
- Perform other tasks as required or directed by supervisor or manager.
