Special Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Production and Processing – Knowledge of raw material, production processes, and quality control for maximizing the effective manufacture of product.
  2. Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  3. Mathematics – Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications.
  4. Communication – Effectively communicate with others at all levels of the organization both written and audibly to convey necessary information effectively.
  5. Continuous Improvement – Objectively monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, procedures, products, etc., in order to make suggestions or corrective actions that drive continuous improvement.

Key Job Tasks:

  1. Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
  2. Inspect work pieces to verify conformance to specifications using rulers, templates, micrometers, gauges, calipers, or other measuring instruments to meet customer’s specifications.
  3. Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces.
  4. Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, material to be used, and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences.
  5. Position, adjust, and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, or arbors, or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms.
  6. Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
  7. Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
  8. Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation.
  9. Record operational data such as dimensional readings, lengths or frequency of strokes, feed rates, and speeds.
  10. Select, install, and adjust alignment of drills, cutters, dies, guides, and holding devices, using templates, measuring instruments, and hand tools.
  11. Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scales, rulers or templates.
  12. Position aligns and secure work pieces against fixtures or stop of machine beds or on dies.
  13. Monitor and adjust production processes or equipment for quality and productivity.
  14. Troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices, or products.
  15. Adjust equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, ring gauges, etc.
  16. Start up and shut down production equipment.
  17. Provide production, progress, or changeover reports to shift supervisors.
  18. Clean Maintain equipment and area around workspace.
  19. Enter, record store or maintain information in written or electronic form.
  20. Perform other tasks as required or directed by supervisor or manager.
