SUMMARY
Working in the Grounds and Supply department, the intern will conduct watershed surveys, field work, collection/ analysis of water samples. The intern will be trained on standard operating procedures and execute proper collection, transportation, and analysis of water quality data from reservoirs, streams, diversions, and groundwater sources. The candidate will enter data, compile reports, and perform rudimentary analysis of acute and long-term trends in water quality. In addition to departmental duties, there will be opportunities for the applicant to learn about other environmental aspects of the organization such as drinking water treatment operations.
SNEW SUMMARY
South Norwalk Electric and Water (SNEW) is a medium-sized water provider in Southwestern Connecticut. SNEW provides water to roughly 42,000 consumers, serving about half of the city of Norwalk, CT, and a part of the southern end of the town of Wilton, CT. SNEW’s water supply is entirely surface water, sourced from a system of four reservoirs and one stream diversion in the towns of Wilton and New Canaan, CT. The surrounding watershed is comprised 9.79 square miles, which SNEW oversees.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. High School diploma.
2. Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
3. Must be comfortable around large bodies of water, ability to swim preferred.

1. Ability to work in aquatic environments including lakes, streams and marsh under adverse conditions.
2. Strong demonstrable interest in water science, natural resource management, and/or environmental instrumentation.
3. Ability to use hand or power tools.
4. Physical stamina to lift, carry, and deploy heavy field equipment; utilize water quality instrumentation, drive pickup truck, prolonged sitting, load and unload machinery off truck.
5. Ability to problem solve and work independently.
6. Ability to learn an adequate working knowledge of treatment plant operations.
7. Ability to take orders and follow instructions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work takes place outside in all weather conditions and requires a combination of standing and bending.
