Job Description for 2025 Spring and Fall Internship: The Meeting House seeks interns to participate as active members of our school partnership team working with elementary-aged students in public schools in Harlem. This program is geared towards teaching social-emotional skills (SEL) during lunch or study time, using play (games and a variety of fun activities) as the platform through which the students build competency in self-awareness, perspective-taking, emotional regulation and empathy.
This internship, called LevelUp SEL, offers unique opportunities for skill-building and hands-on experience to interns majoring in elementary or special education, social work or child psychology. Training and professional development around social-emotional learning and cultural identity are provided to interns by our professional educators and social workers before and during the internship.
***Only apply if you are available:
– This spring on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays from approx 9am – 2pm
AND
– This fall on Fridays approx 9am – 2pm.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
▪ Attend and actively participate in all professional development and debrief sessions
▪ Engage with students in all activities and dialogue
▪ Act as a role-model by displaying appropriate behavior and social-emotional expertise
▪ Communicate effectively by infusing SEL language as a way to practice and possess strong verbal and non-verbal social skills and emotional competencies
▪ Maintain an upbeat and positive attitude for inclusivity and belonging as a way to exhibit a genuinely caring manner to all
▪ Maintain a safe and clean learning environment at all times
▪ Set-up and breakdown activities and games for SEL & play therapy as needed
NOTE: Prior experience working with children is preferred
