The Arizona Transportation Institute (AZTI), housed in the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona, is seeking a motivated student worker to support communications, outreach, and event activities for the institute. This position provides hands-on experience in marketing, content creation, and event coordination within a research and engineering environment. The student worker will assist with developing newsletters, creating visual and multimedia content, supporting social media and outreach efforts, and helping coordinate institute events such as advisory board meetings, conferences, and summits. The role is ideal for students interested in communications, marketing, design, or engineering who want to build professional skills while contributing to the promotion of transportation research.
Duties and responsibilities:
Email/newsletter support
- Help create a newsletter template in MailChimp
- Gather and summarize information for AZTI newsletters
- Format and proofread content
AZTI Website support
- Updating pages with new faculty members, research centers, and more
- Posting new project summaries
- Collecting website data
Creative projects
- Event materials: slides, handouts, or simple posters for institute events
- Build templates for AZTI (slides, Canva social graphics, letterhead)
Event Planning (Advisory Board Meeting, Conferences/Summits)
- Help with event logistics (flights, lodging, agendas, etc.)
Social Media
- Help draft and schedule LinkedIn posts
- Create simple graphics using Canva templates (e.g., event flyers, quote posts, research highlights).
- Collect and organize photos for use in posts.
Outreach support
- Help track outreach activities for AZTI
- Partner research: Compile list of community partners, schools, and organizations for outreach
Metrics/KPI tracking
- Collect basic marketing analytics (e.g., LinkedIn engagement, website traffic)
Minimum qualifications:
- Interest in marketing, communications, outreach, engineering or related fields.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience with design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools (preferred but not required)
- Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
