Job Summary

The Picking Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of picking specialists to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient order fulfillment. This mid-level, non-exempt position plays a key role in daily warehouse operations by assigning work, monitoring performance, training team members, and enforcing safety standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assign picking tasks and monitor order queues to ensure on-time fulfillment.
  • Track individual and team productivity and provide coaching or support as needed.
  • Train and onboard new picking team members on procedures, systems, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct quality checks to verify order accuracy and reduce errors.
  • Coordinate workflow with other warehouse departments including packing and shipping.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Enforce warehouse safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment.
  • Prepare reports and communicate status updates to warehouse leadership.
  • Identify and escalate operational challenges and suggest improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of leadership experience in a warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of picking operations, scanning equipment, and inventory systems.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and meet performance targets.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to walk and stand on concrete warehouse floors for extended hours.
  • Regularly lift, carry, and move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in a fast-paced, physically active environment.
  • Operate around forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Work performed in a warehouse setting with seasonal temperature variations.
  • Exposure to warehouse noise and varying temperature conditions.

The number of jobs in the career for the past two years, the current year, and projections for the next 10 years. Job counts include both employed and self-employed persons, and do not distinguish between full- and part-time jobs. Sources include Emsi industry data, staffing patterns, and OES data.

    Education Levels

    The educational attainment percentage breakdown for a career (e.g. the percentage of people in the career who hold Bachelor’s Degrees vs. Associate Degrees). Educational attainment levels are provided by O*NET.

    Annual Earnings

    Earnings figures are based on OES data from the BLS and include base rate, cost of living allowances, guaranteed pay, hazardous-duty pay, incentive pay (including commissions and bonuses), on-call pay, and tips.

    Technical Skills

    A list of hard skills associated with a given career ordered by the number of unique job postings which ask for those skills.

      Core Competencies

      The skills for the career. The "importance" is how relevant the ability is to the occupation: scale of 1-5. The "level" is the proficiency required by the occupation: scale of 0-100. Results are sorted by importance first, then level.

        A list of job titles for all unique postings in a given career, sorted by frequency.
