Natalie is a senior at the University of Miami double majoring in Marine Affairs and Ecosystem Science & Policy and minoring in Public Relations. In spring of 2024, she studied abroad at the American University of Rome in Rome, Italy. She joined the Cane2Cane mentorship platform to chat, connect, and learn more from alumni and professionals who are currently thriving in the marine and environmental science field!
Can you share your experience using Cane2Cane?
As a senior, I used Cane2Cane to seek advice on my next step after undergrad for marine/environmental science students. On Cane2Cane, I specifically inquired about insight on graduate school. I connected with Bhanu Calvert. It was beneficial to connect with Bhanu and I appreciated the opportunity! I found the website to be intuitive and easy to navigate. I learned I needed to be more specific in my graduate school search. Applying to graduate programs is quite different from undergraduate programs. I would recommend Cane2Cane to fellow UM students as a way to research career paths and network with UM alumni.
Why do you think networking is beneficial for current ‘Canes and alumni?
The UM network is extensive and a versatile tool for both current students and alumni. I believe it can help the UM community connect for both academic and professional experiences. I am the first one in my family interested in pursuing a graduate degree so it is helpful to hear from alumni on their academic journey.
