After-School Associate

Background
Students in bilingual schools, especially lower school students, need a carefully cultivated English language environment to improve their English language skills, to cultivate their understanding of cultures of English-speaking countries, to adjust to immersive English learning environment, therefore to lay a solid foundation for future study in English speaking countries.
About the School
Dipont KCS Chengdu is located to the northeast of Chengdu city, with beautiful hills and open green spaces surrounding it. Our iconic campus includes a 600-seat theatre, black box studio, first-class laboratories, sports field, basketball and tennis courts, a 400m running track, an Olympic 50m indoor pool and a fitness and weight training suite. We are fully committed to developing an educational environment that will make the most of this world-class campus.
Dipont KCS Chengdu was founded through partnership between Dipont Education and a world-leading school, King’s College School, Wimbledon. The student population includes both Chinese national and international students aged 6-18.
Responsibilities
1. English Language Learning Support:
· Language Buddy Project: Establish a language buddy mechanism between after-school associates and Chinese students for oral practice in daily life, improving the Chinese students’ speaking and listening skills and allowing after-school associates to gain deeper insights into Chinese culture.
· Teaching Assistance and Tutoring: Assist English teachers in course delivery. Engage students in English learning by giving demo lessons and facilitating group discussions. Provide personalized tutoring to help students overcome learning challenges.
· English Corners or Workshop Activities: Organize regular English Corners or workshops, acting as guests or facilitators to share their experiences with English learning, offer tips, and lead oral English practice sessions.
· Online Learning Resources: Create instructional videos or share study materials in line with the course curriculum.
2. Cultural Exchange and Understanding:
· Cultural Exchange and Sharing: Introduce cultures, customs, and everyday life of English-speaking countries to Chinese students and strengthen their cross-cultural awareness. By sharing stories and experiences from diverse cultural backgrounds, KCS students will gain a greater appreciation of different lifestyles and ways of thinking.
· International Friendship Activities: Assist in the organization and implementation of student social events.
Duration
Duration: September 2024 to July 2025 (one academic year)
Monday to Friday from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM, including but not limited to the after-school program from 3:30 to 5:00 PM and the evening self-study from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Management and Support
1. Tutor System: Each associate will be assigned a tutor for guidance and management during the academic year to ensure a smooth experience.
2. Training: Before school starts, associates will attend training to understand the basics of Chinese education and their responsibilities.
Outcomes and Feedback
1. Self-Report: At the end of the academic year, associates must submit a report summarizing their experiences, learnings, and reflections, and offer feedback and suggestions for the school.
2. Individual Evaluation: Dipont KCS Chengdu will evaluate individual’s performance, and provide certification and letters of recommendation if needed.
Benefits
This is a fellowship position. While associates receive no salary, Dipoont will provide generous compensation and benefits.

Chinese language study and cultural exploration program
On top of the benefits, a significant portion of this fellowship program is to offer associates Chinese language study and cultural exploration. The Chinese language study will be offered weekly, taught by certified Chinese-as-the-second-language teachers. The cultural exploration program will focus on the rich culture of Chengdu City and Sichuan Province, one of the most popular travel destination in China, where students will travel across the region to understand the origin of China’s civilization, its magnificent landscape and human history, as well as its unique ethic culture. Trips are offered monthly. All costs are covered by Dipont Chengdu KCS. Here are some of the highlights:

Work Visa
According to the regulations in China, associates need to obtain work visa. Dipont will fully support the entire process and cover all expenses, which includes obtaining a TEFL certificate by completing a 120-hour online training.
