Position Overview
Duke Kunshan University seeks applicants for a position as Instructor in Economics in its Undergraduate Program. The successful applicant will receive an initial contract of 3 years that might be renewed pending evaluation of job performance. Reporting to the Division Chair of Social Sciences and working closely with course instructors, the instructor will provide comprehensive support for the teaching of economics courses, in particular the introductory courses. Compensation is internationally competitive and commensurate with experience and education background.
Duke Kunshan University is a partnership of Duke University, Wuhan University and the Municipality of Kunshan, China. DKU is located in Kunshan China, about 30 km from Shanghai. DKU offers a series of graduate degree programs and launched its undergraduate degree program in 2018. Our campus provides an innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate liberal arts experience to a student body that will number 2000 students and 200+ faculty, with a student body represented by over 60 countries. The Lab Instructor in Economics will play an important role in delivering integrated and interdisciplinary teaching for the UG program.

Associate Professor of Economics; Chair, Division of Social Sciences of Undergraduate Program
Essential Duties
- Support economics courses under supervision of designated course instructors, in particular the course ECON 101.
- Lead the recitation sections within the context of the course.
- Assist in grading course assignment as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- University employees’ job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must hold at least a Master’s Degree in Economics. A Ph.D. degree in Economics is preferred but not required.
- Teaching experience in higher education setting, including serving as teaching assistant, is desirable.
- Willing to work in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Good organizational skills, punctuality and knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
Education
Candidates must hold at least a Master’s Degree in Economics. A Ph.D. degree in Economics is preferred but not required.
Years of Related Working Experience
1-2 years’ teaching experience in higher education is preferred. Fresh graduates with studying experience in top universities will be considered; experiences as TA will be highly preferred.
