A prestigious midtown Manhattan law firm with international clientele seeks an entry-level paralegal to assist in a few of our practice groups, including trademark and fashion law, intellectual property, corporate and commercial litigation. This position requires a two-year commitment and is ideal for a recent alum looking to gain substantive experience before attending law school.
Our paralegals assist with a wide range of matters and, as such, gain exposure to many aspects of the legal field. The candidate, however, should have a strong interest in trademark law, and intellectual property in general, as the position includes assistance with trademark prosecution docket and litigation support for federal and state actions, arbitrations and mediations. Duties for this position run the gamut from low-level to high-level, and it is crucial that all tasks are approached with equal diligence.
This position encompasses:
- USPTO filings of all types (new applications, statements of use, post-registration filings, assignments, TTAB matters, etc.)
- Preparation of cost estimates for clients
- Proofreading and drafting correspondence and legal documents
- Drafting and submitting various state-level business filings
- General legal research
- Assisting with litigations/legal proceedings, including document management and review, drafting motions/pleadings, and filing of same
- Communicating with clients regarding select matters
- Managing client files (primarily electronic)
- Monthly preparation of client invoices
- Management of partner travel arrangements
- Assisting with client development (writing/editing articles, planning client events)
- Managing calendars
- General assistance to partners
- and a variety of administrative support tasks
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree +Paralegal Studies
- Strong writing and proofreading abilities
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Westlaw/other databases)
- Analytical/detail-oriented mindset
- Enthusiastic approach regardless of the task at hand (must be willing to undertake both legal and administrative tasks)
- Prepared to assume real responsibility for and ownership of both day-to-day projects and longer-term assignments
- Go-getter approach
- Strong interest in trademark law
- Demonstrated desire to attend law school
- Team-oriented mentality and generally pleasant person to be around
- Willingness to make a two-year commitment
- Fluency in French is a plus
