The overall responsibilities of this position include conducting outreach activities for primarily Pitt County, yet may assist in Craven County as directed. Position includes greeting and screening high risk individuals seeking HIV/Syphilis/Hep C testing, conducting assessments, identifying community resources, providing information and referral services, providing advocacy and emergency services, and program record keeping. This position requires the ability to work with high-risk individuals and low-income populations, meet monthly goals, exercise good judgement and coordinate with a wide range of service organizations, drug rehabilitation facilities, jails, and other special areas. This position requires extensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS as well as other STIs, the ability to effectively communicate with all populations in a wide variety of settings, strong public speaking skills, team oriented personality, and the understanding that night and weekend work will be required.
While there are many facets to the role, the following are basic responsibilities:
Prevention Program Facilitation
- Recruit targeted populations to offer prevention services .
- Conduct CTR services during prevention activities.
- Coordinate the condom distribution program by maintaining condom supplies, notifying the Program Coordinator when purchases need to be made, ensuring all sites have a maintained stock of condoms, and creating new relationships for the placement of condom distribution devices.
- Maintain existing agency relationships by holding periodic events in all venue types
- Attend all state and program sponsored trainings and all other trainings deemed necessary by Program Coordinator.
- Actively participate in outreach activities including street outreach, event participation and education services.
- Maintain program documents.
- Coordinate agency volunteers.
- Assist Program Coordinator in completing program reports and agency documentation.
This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and shall complete all other tasks as assigned and deemed necessary by the Program Coordinator or the Executive Committee as well as the State Grant Monitor.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, or related field with relative experience. Must have effective communication skills. Must have at least one year experience related to community organization in community settings with multiple community agencies and a variety of populations, HIV rapid test training and HIV CTR, STI 101 training, phlebotomy training desired but will be provided if needed. Must have at least one year experience in computer skills.
