KEYS Service Corps, AmeriCorps members are placed at a variety of community-based organizations throughout Allegheny County to help out at summer day camps with youth and serve as mentors. This means you’ll be doing arts and crafts, playing ball, chaperoning field trips, and helping with a variety of other summer camp activities. We also have a youth employment component where the member would serve alongside teenagers who are learning job skills as they are working to improve their communities.

- TERM LENGTH — May 23, 2024 – August 16, 2024
- HOURS COMMITMENT — 450 hours (about 41 hours per week)
- STIPEND — $6,000 ($1,000 every two weeks before taxes.)
- EDUCATION AWARD — $1,824.07
The Education Award is received upon successful completion of the program. It can be used to pay for the costs of attending a qualified institution of higher education or to pay back qualified student loans.
REQUIREMENTS — Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, have previous experience working with children and pass a series of clearances.
We’re looking for members who are not only able to have fun with kids on their level but who are also able to be professional and inspirational role models. This is a chance to help youth grow and to grow yourself. If you’re an energetic, committed individual who relishes the feeling of accomplishment after a day running around with kids, this is the position for you.
AmeriCorps is a good stepping stone for those who are interested in careers in youth-based programming, education, non-profits, or the Peace Corps. If you perform well during the summer, we may welcome you to stay on with KEYS for a full year term at one of our school or after-school based sites.

How will you serve your community?
KEYS (Knowledge to Empower Youths to Success) Service Corps members serve at-risk Pittsburgh and Allegheny County area youth by providing safe places with structured activities, assisting with homework and classwork, implementing community service/service-learning projects, and involving community volunteers in service. Members serve full time or less than full time at one of our partnering sites while receiving training and support from KEYS staff before and during their year of service. Our members are placed with a variety of schools, after-school programs, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations and summer camps.
