Job Summary
Multiple positions will be filled by consideration of all applicants to this posting. Positions will be filled in either the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) job classification. The classification level (LPN, CMA, or EMT) in which the position is filled will be determined based on the qualifications of the applicant who is selected for the position.
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Health Services Team at MCF-Faribault for full-time or part-time positions.The LPN, CMA, and EMT perform duties to assist practitioners and Registered Nurses in providing health care to incarcerated individuals. Responsibilities include:
- Perform functions related to “rooming” the incarcerated individual for practitioner examinations, including obtaining blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight and documenting complaints.
- Perform phlebotomy functions with incarcerated individuals, including collecting blood and urine samples and performing other tests ordered by the practitioner.
- Conduct Blood Pressure Clinic and other chronic care clinics with incarcerated individuals.
- Administer medication as prescribed by the practitioner.
These positions have direct contact with incarcerated individuals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Licensed Practical Nurse
To qualify for Licensed Practical Nurse, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing plus current licensure in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse without limitations or restrictions.
- Clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the last five years.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
Medical Assistant, Certified
To qualify for Medical Assistant, Certified, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Completion of an approved training program in medical assisting plus certification or registration as a medical assistant by passing a national examination.
- Clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the last five years.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
Emergency Medical Technician
To qualify for Emergency Medical Technician, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Completion of an approved EMT training program plus certification or registration in Minnesota as an EMT that is current, active, and without restrictions.
- Post-certification experience as an EMT.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for the position:
- Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
- Experience in specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
Physical Requirements
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
