Position Summary
A career in Engineering will provide the opportunity to perform general engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments. This typically includes planning, designing and estimating time and cost, and overseeing construction of facilities. This also involves developing and applying engineering standards and procedures, and providing advice on issues within the engineering field. Additionally, this role will need to be able to apply Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques to generate and interpret engineering designs in support of assigned projects.
Roles within Engineering are responsible for a variety of engineering services functions that could include construction, systems engineering, design support, or similar engineering support activities. This includes ensuring the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of all engineering services projects. This also includes the preparation of new or modified designs. The team also must act as Subject Matter Experts providing technical support to the operations function as well as other functional areas within SJI.
Essential Functions:
- Creation and/or technical review of engineering drawings for gas main and station installation projects
- Perform basic engineering design in AutoCAD.
- Perform calculations, analyses and research on upcoming department projects.
- Operate as Project Manager for projects of limited size and scope.
- Participate in group meetings and presenting results of work in collaboration with various departments
- This role will possess basic knowledge and understanding of professional engineering and/or technical concepts, principles, practices and procedures. This role is part of a broader team with the intent to gain more exposure. It is expected that the person in this role will apply basic skills to complete assigned work within a group/project team. Additionally, it is expected that they will follow regulations and guidelines related to safety in both design and construction.
Qualifications
Required Background:
- Bachelor’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience,
- Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Preferred Background:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an Accredited College/University
Required Skills:
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- A professional demeanor, with a strong sense of commitment and the ability to evaluate complex information.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or other computer assisted design software
- Engineer-in-Training certification
