TRIO Young Scholars is a non-profit, private school for children with autism in kindergarten through 2nd grade. TRIO Academy is an affiliated therapy center for children with autism. Young Scholars was created to provide a unique learning experience for children and support their continued growth in order to be successful when entering a traditional school environment in 3rd grade. In addition to teaching core subjects, Young Scholars focuses on communication, social and group skills, self-advocacy and independence.
An Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the lead teacher and fostering a positive and productive learning environment for students. Teaching responsibilities include the creation and facilitation of educational lessons and materials that are differentiated and appropriate for the learning objectives in the classroom and based on WI-State standards for each grade for music, art, and physical education. The assistant teacher works closely with the lead teacher, assists in implementing lesson plans for core subjects, manages classroom activities, and ensures the overall well-being and safety of students. This position involves collaboration with the lead teacher, clinical director, and parents to create a nurturing and effective educational experience.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Utilize evidence-based materials and resources for the development of lesson plans for music, art, and physical education
- Assist in implementation of behavior management strategies to maintain a positive classroom environment
- Collect accurate and objective data on goals, learning objectives, and attendance
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts
- Monitor students during classroom activities, transitions, and recess
- Assist lead teacher in writing quarterly progress reports
- Graciously accept feedback from lead teacher, clinical director and executive director
- Professionally participate in the client’s educational and/or clinical team
- Provide feedback to School Technicians as needed
- Maintain professional and quality behavior with families, caregivers, and new employees
- Abide by professional, legal, and ethical standards as well as demonstrate sound professional judgement at all times
ASSISTANT TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
Education: minimum requirement is a high school diploma and 250 hours of experience with children with autism. Preferred experience includes active enrollment in an education program at a university or technical school
Availability: minimum of 25 hours availability between 8am-3pm M-F from September 2024-May 2025.
