Position Summary
Bellevue College (BC) International Education (IE) is expecting to host a four-week customized program for a group of 8 Japanese college students from Feb. 18, 2024. The following duties are typical for this position but should not be considered all-inclusive. Duties may be changed based on management discretion and institutional needs. Primary responsibilities of the Program Coordinator are to prepare the program thoroughly, actively engage with the students to create a safe and inclusive learning environment, and deliver a successful program. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, handling all logistics of all on- and off-campus activities, preparing and delivering the welcome orientation and farewell ceremony, showing students how to ride public transportation, leading all on- and off-campus activities including themed workshops, staying within the budget, conducting the program evaluation, and briefing the IE director daily.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Pay rate: $19.40/hour – $25.20/hour.
The successful candidate is expected to work individually in Week 1 approximately 32 hours per week, Week 2 approximately 10 hours per week, Week 3 approximately 10 hours per week, and Week 4 approximately 20 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. About the Department
International Education (IE) provides primary support for students on an F and a J visa who plan to enroll in College-credit, International High School Completion (IHSC), Bridge Pathway, International Business Professions (IBP), and Intensive English programs. IE services include international recruitment, admissions, advising, class enrollment, accident and sickness medical benefit matters, student engagement and housing referrals. In addition, IE works with our partners to develop and deliver a short-term customized program for a group of participants wishing to enhance their general English skills and experience rich, diverse Northwest cultures firsthand.
Essential Functions
• Finalize the program details such as booking and confirming room assignments, charter bus arrangements, guest speakers, purchasing items, preparing for the welcome orientation, metro bus orientation, presentation as well as farewell ceremony by preparing certificates, slide show, etc.
• Develop culturally-sensitive interactive seminars and activities based on the themes.
• Punctually facilitate the daily schedule, track attendance, and conduct daily check-in with the students.
• Actively engage with the students to create a safe and inclusive learning environment, generate enthusiasm in learning new language and cultures.
• Stay within the allotted hours and provide progress updates to the director of IE.
• Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school graduation or equivalent AND one-year professional work experience.
• Experience working with low-level English learners and demonstrated ability for patience and empathy for individual learning styles.
• Eligible and available to work on the specified dates and hours to facilitate the entire program punctually.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially PowerPoint, and other applications.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities with minimal supervision and stay within budget.
• Familiar with the greater-Seattle area.
Preferred Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Experience in teaching and class management experiences for low-level English learners.
• Experience in study or work abroad.
• Demonstrated ability to earn trust of others with diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
