The Geotechnical Intern will work collaboratively with the responsible geotechnical engineer as part of the Burns & McDonnell Geotechnical Department. The Geotechnical Intern will support and assist in completing requests for engineering-related services by the Geotechnical Department.
- Assist in the geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.
- Assist with research and compile project-related data (geotechnical data, boring logs, subsurface profiles) as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.
- Assist with planning subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs as the responsible geotechnical engineer directs.
- Apply basic knowledge of commonly used geotechnical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry.
- Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering or Geology (or have previously completed).
- Accepted into or currently enrolled and in good standing in a Masters of Science program in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.
- Preferred to have completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Geology degree prior to internship.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
- Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and eager learner aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
- A minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
