Job Description: As a Civil Engineering Intern at ICE, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will be exposed to a wide range of projects and gain hands-on experience in multiple disciplines within civil engineering. Interns will assist the ICE engineers with the following duties depending on the area of focus they choose for their internship.
- Roadway Design Engineering – Assisting in the design and analysis of roadway projects, including alignment, grading, pavement design, and drainage systems.
- Bridge Design – Supporting the design of bridges and other structural elements, including conducting structural analysis, preparing drawings, and assisting in the development of construction plans.
- Water Resource Design Engineering – Assisting in water resources projects, such as stormwater management, drainage analysis, and floodplain studies.
- Environmental Engineering – Contributing to environmental engineering projects, including environmental impact assessments, pollution control, and sustainable design initiatives.
- Geotechnical Engineering – Assisting in geotechnical engineering tasks, such as soil testing, foundation design, and slope stability analysis.
- Traffic Engineering – Supporting traffic engineering projects, including traffic impact studies, signal design, and transportation planning.
- Noise/Acoustical Design Engineering – Assisting in noise and acoustical design projects, including analyzing and mitigating noise impacts from transportation infrastructure.
- Utility Coordination – Assisting in utility coordination tasks, such as reviewing utility plans, conducting utility conflict analysis, and coordinating utility relocations.
- Airport Design Engineering – Supporting airport design projects, including runway and taxiway design, pavement evaluation, and airport facility planning.
- Civil Site Design Engineering – Assisting in site design tasks, including site layout, grading, drainage design, and erosion control.
- Architectural Design (Building Design) – Contributing to architectural design projects, including conceptual design, drafting, and 3D modeling.
- Construction Engineering & Inspection – Assisting in construction engineering and inspection tasks, such as construction document review, field inspections, and quality control.
- Material Laboratory – Supporting material laboratory activities, including sample preparation, testing, data analysis, and reporting.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering or a related field.
Rising Junior or Senior preferred with a minimum GPA of 3.5 desired.
Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and concepts.
Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, MicroStation, Open Roads, or similar desired.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Must be a US Resident or have a Green Card. (Internship opportunities are currently not available for students on an H1B Visa.)
Must complete a pre-employment screening and have a safe driving record.
Duration and Compensation: This internship is a 14–16-week program, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with industry standards.
