Water Resources Designer – West Columbia, SC

Based in the West Columbia, SC office, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across the Southeast.
As a full-service transportation consulting and design firm, ICE specializes in a wide range of disciplines, including highways, bridges/structures, hydrology/hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering, foundation testing, environmental documentation (NEPA), construction services, and aviation design. Within our Hydrologic and Hydraulic Services, you’ll be at the forefront of innovative projects, from developing roadway drainage plans to conducting bridge hydraulic analysis. You’ll have the opportunity to tackle storm sewer design, culvert analysis, pond design, energy dissipation design, FEMA analysis, flood control modeling, scour analysis, riverine analysis for multidimensional flow, and erosion and sediment control. Additionally, your expertise in NPDES permitting and stormwater management will play a crucial role in ensuring environmental sustainability.

Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate drainage design activities for highway and bridge construction projects, including technical planning, design, and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models, erosion control, stormwater abatement, and green infrastructure.
- Conduct field investigations and assessments at project sites to provide valuable insights for the hydraulic design process.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications and permit submittals.
- Contribute to the development of preliminary project cost estimates and quantity evaluations.
- Review documents and design work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications set by the DOT.
- Attend client, public, project, and staff meetings, actively participating in client progress updates, plan reviews, and pre-construction discussions.
- Utilize your expertise in MicroStation and GEOPAK drainage to produce high-quality drainage designs, profiles, stormwater alleviation plans, and pavement drainage solutions.
Desired Skills
To thrive in this role, desired skills include experience in drainage design, bridge, and culvert modeling, scour analysis, and erosion control. An understanding of SCDOT practices is essential, and familiarity with DOTs in the Southeast is highly valued. Proficiency in engineering and modeling software such as MicroStation, HydroCAD, and Geopak drainage will greatly contribute to your success. Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) are also required.
Requirements
As for the requirements, we seek individuals with a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Your Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a must, and having an EIT certification in SC is desired. While 1-3 years of civil engineering experience is preferred, we also welcome talented individuals who are eager to kickstart their careers. Additionally, being a US Citizen or Legal Resident is required for this position, as we currently do not support VISA sponsorship.

Pay Range
$55,000 – $75,000 per year
